EZ SMILE clear aligners apply pressure that gradually move your teeth and reshape the supporting bone. It’s a very simple process.
Firstly, you capture the shape of your teeth by making your impressions with the EZ SMILE Impression Kit in the comfort of your own home. From these impressions we create a 3D teeth straightening plan showing how your teeth will move during the EZ SMILE process and how many clear aligners it will take to move your teeth into their final position.
Once you’ve approved your teeth straightening plan, a 3D printer creates your clear aligners. The aligners are made from smooth, comfortable, high quality BPA-free plastic that doesn’t irritate your cheeks and gums like traditional metal braces do.
All you need to move your teeth is wear the aligners for 20 or more hours a day removing them only to eat, drink and brush your teeth. The aligners are clear and you can barely see them when you are wearing them.
The aligners apply light pressure to certain teeth, gradually moving them closer to the desired position.
Let’s see how this process actually works…
The fluid in the ligament initially stops the tooth from moving but very soon the fluid is released from the area, moving the tooth to its new position. Your teeth can only move a tiny distance at a time as the ligament is only about a quarter of a millimetre thick.
After a few hours of pressure the condensed ligament responds by producing enzymes and chemical messengers. After a couple of days, those chemicals begin to produce bone cells. These are called osteoclasts and osteoblasts.
When the pressure is stopped for any length of time then the process has to start again.
When the bone around the tooth finishes rebuilding, it’s time to take out the old aligners and move on to the next set. The rate of rebuilding varies between individuals but we suggest wearing each aligner for approximately 2 weeks. The most important thing is to wear your EZ SMILE clear aligners at least 20 hours per day so that the bone can be reshaped and the teeth can stay straight.
Each aligner moves the teeth a little bit further until you have the perfect EZ SMILE! Click here to find out if EZ SMILE’s teeth straightening treatment is right for you.
